Here's a quick and easy Playdough recipe I picked up from the Ontario Early Years Centre. It's non-toxic, so it is perfect to use with the little ones who may try to put it in their mouths.
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 2 tsps of cream of tartar
- 1 cup of boiling water
- 1 tsp of oil
- dash of food colouring
*Mix all ingredients together and store in the refrigerator.
I love simple salt dough recipes. Are there appropriate substitutes for those of us who do not have cream of tartar in the cupboard?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! Some websites say that it isn't necessary, but that it does improve the elasticity. One website recommended substituting white wine vinegar or lemon juice, but to put in 3X the amount of cream of tartar in the recipe. http://www.naturalparentingtips.com/creative-play/no-cream-tartar-playdough-recipe/
ReplyDeleteI have never tried it any other way than the recipe above, so I'm not sure how good the subsitutes work. Good luck!
Well, this just reminds me that I haven't made this in years and I bet my little people would just love it if I made it now! Thanks!

It's great. It's so easy and yet turns out fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love using KoolAid instead of food colouring... great colour and aroma!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! How much do you add and how do you add it?
